Welcome to Honors English 9. I look forward to a busy, fun and rewarding year with you all!
Please be sure to have read the Summer Reading Assignment, listed on the school's webpage, www.slhs.net. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE BOOK AND ASSIGNMENT FROM THE LIBRARY. NO EXCUSES.
Be prepared to turn in your Of Mice and Men summer homework (reading questions) on the first day of school. Answers should be written neatly in blue or black ink on lined paper, or typed. Also, be prepared to discuss, write, and test on the content in the text in the weeks following.
This year will be exciting and busy; I look forward to working with you!

Other important info:
- Homework as well as long term projects will be posted on my webpage daily, or close to it, as well as on the classroom board.
- Homework is expected to be typed and/or legible. If no computer is available at home, the school computer lab (located in the SLHS Main Library) is open after school daily until 5 pm. It is NOT open in the morning, and you are not permitted to leave class to type up or print out any work.
- Folders for returned papers will be provided in class and kept in a drawer for students to access.
- School issued books need to be brought each day, as well as the above supplies. Each student should have their own and not rely on others to provide them on a daily basis, nor should they have to be retrieved from lockers during class.
- Students need to be on time to class each day. If late, you need to enter quietly and respectfully. If you are habitually late, it will affect your grade in the class.
- If you are absent, you have TWO DAYS to make up the work for every day of absence.
- One day a week, students will have the opportunity to make up tests/quizzes. Students must sign up for the make up date that follows closest to their absence. After that, tests and quizzes may not be made up, especially if it has been corrected and returned to students.
- Please be aware that you are in class to learn; not to argue, disrupt or get in the way of other students' learning. If you have difficulty with the above behaviors, I will be happy to call your parents, invite them to attend class with you, refer you to the office, or otherwise work with you to be successful. As a high school student, you are expected to know how to behave in the classroom while demonstrating respect and the ability to work with others.
